Dr. Conchita L. Manabat, or eChitf, as she is fondly known, is a sterling example of leadership and achievement.
Chit has the distinction of accomplishing many efirstsf, both in the local and global arena. She is the first woman President of the Philippine Association of Management Accountants (1981-82), a chapter of the US based Institute of Management Accountants (formerly, the National Association of Accountants), the first woman chair of the Board of Accountancy of the Philippines (the regulator of the accounting profession in the country) in 1995-97, first woman Chair to lead for four years (2003-2006) the Philippinesf Capital Market Development Council (a joint undertaking of the regulators and the institutional associations of industry players in the capital market with the Philippine Secretary of Finance as co-chair), and the 2005 - 2006 first woman chair of the International Association of Financial Executives Institutes (IAFEI), another first for the 38 year-old organization.
Dr. Manabat was designated as one of the two representatives of the Asian Financial Executives Institutes with the other from the Peoplefs Republic of China, to the Consultative Advisory Group (CAG) of the International Auditing & Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and the CAG of the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). Both memberships to the Consultative Advisory Groups are firsts in the Philippines and in Asia.
She was once a member of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), President of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) and Chair of the FINEX Foundation.
Retired last December 2006 as the founder and first woman chair of the Deloitte practice in the Philippines, Dr. Manabat is now an independent and only woman director of Fujitsu Philippines, Inc. and a member of the Board of Directors of PT International Alliance Food Indonesia. She accepted to preside the Market Integrity Board (MIB) of the Philippine Stock Exchange in November 2007 and was its Chair until September 2009.
She is currently the President of the Development Center for Finance; a Trustee of the University of San Carlos of Cebu City, Philippines; a Trustee of the Institute for Women Studies; Trustee of Childrenfs Hour; and a member of the Diocesan Committee on Finance of the Diocese of San Pablo (Laguna).
A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), holder of MBA and Ph.D degrees and participant in executive programs, Chit studied at the University of the Philippines, the Ateneo de Manila University, the Southeast Asia Interdisciplinary Development Institute, the Harvard Business School and Pennsylvania State University.
Chit is a recipient of various awards notable of which are University of the Philippines-College of Business Administration, Distinguished Alumna Award, December 2, 2001; ROTARY Club of Binan, Laguna, Philippines Achievement Awardee for Accountancy, 1999; Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Honorary Life Member, November 27, 2001; Outstanding CPA in Public Practice, 1995, awarded by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA); Deanfs Award, University of the Philippines College of Business Administration, 1994; Outstanding CPA in Professional Development, 1991, awarded by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). Chit received her hometownfs (Binan, Laguna) Outstanding Achievement Recognition during the Binan Liberation Day Celebration on February 5, 2006. She also accepted the Recognition Award as one of Outstanding Men & Women of Binan, Laguna from the St. Michael College of Laguna on August 23, 2006, during the 31st Anniversary of the said college. She was also the speaker of the Recognition Ceremonies (Graduation Rites) of the College of Business Administration of the University of the Philippines on April 23. 2006.
She was cited as Biographee, Whofs Who in the World, 6th ed., 1982.
Success to her is the consequence of owning a vision and possessing the discipline, courage, discernment and passion to transform that vision into reality. Robert A. Campbell, the former CEO and managing partner of Deloitte Asia Pacific, once said, "Chit has given a new meaning to the term 'DTT' (Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu) as gdetermined, tenacious, and tough."
